Symptoms

When trying to register a new domain global or universal group from the Active Directory the process fails with the error "The specified group does not exist.". This problem does occur even i you have located the group by browsing to it.

Cause

We have seen this problem on one installation where the web server and the Active Directory was located on different network nodes. The problem occured on the domain controller acting as PDC and this machine was running Windows 2000 but we cannot confirm nor deny that the problem also will occur on domain controllers running Windows Server 2003. In this case the internal windows function NetGroupGetInfo returned the error NERR_GroupNotFound error instead of the documented error ERROR_NO_SUCH_ALIAS. This undocumented error is not handled in this case so the process fails.

Resolution

Try to move the web server to the same network node as the Active Directory.

Status

We can confirm that this problem has occured on one installation only. This error will be dealt with in later versions of Content Studio.
